What is the VA HISA Grant?
The VA Home Improvement and Structural Alterations (HISA) Grant helps eligible veterans pay for home accessibility modifications, including ADA-compliant bathroom upgrades such as walk-in and roll-in showers.

Who qualifies for the VA HISA Grant?
Any disabled veteran with a 50% or more service connected disability rating can apply and qualify for HISA grant. But the disabled veteran must be evaluated by an VA occupational therapist (OT) for pre-eligibility of HISA grant and then if the OT pre approves you an application will be sent to your address.

How do I get a HISA Application?
First you need to be seen by a VA physician or Occupational Therapist to pre-approve you for HISA grant. Then prosthetics will send you an application to fill out and inform you what amount of money you are eligible for. Then you call a contractor like us for a quote!

What is required to turn in with my HISA Application?
You need to turn in an itemized quote from a contractor, before pictures, and a diagram of the before and after of tub/shower. Good thing is we help with the whole package exactly how the VA wants to see it!

How do I get a HISA Assesment and quote from?
Easy! One way is to schedule an in person assessment and we will take pictures and measurements and can give you quote next day. The faster way is to text or email VetBath following info: Veteran Full Name, Address, Email, Pictures of Tub Shower. Once received quote can be provided same day by email and can be mailed that week.

How long does it take for VA Prosthetics office to approve HISA grants?
Depends on what VA System, but generally 45-60 days for approval and then another 1-2 weeks before you should see your fist half payment from VA with your checking account.

Prosthetics Office gave me a HISA Application to fill out, how many contractor quotes do I need?
You only need to turn in one quote with your HISA application

Do I need a certified HISA contractor?
Yes. The VA requires that accessibility modifications be completed by an experienced contractor who understands HISA guidelines and ADA compliance.

Can I do a walk in tub with VA HISA Grant?
No, unfortunately you can't, the shower must be a barrier free shower so can not have anything higher than 4 inches to get into shower. Shower must be a roll in or a walk in shower.

Can I put glass on my shower through VA HISA grant?
No, glass doors are not allowed on shower as the shower must be a barrier free shower.

How does Payment to VetBath work?
Once approved for HISA and you have been paid first half, we will require first half payment to VetBath the day we start shower, then we will submit completion paperwork to VA for you to receive second half payment, once you receive second half payment you will then pay of the final balance. We never ask for a penny out of your pocket until the VA has paid you!!

Is there any out-of-pocket cost?
No. With the standard shower conversion (roll in walk in shower and grab bars) there will be ZERO out of pocket cost to veterans.

How long does it take to complete a roll in or walk in shower conversion?
If standard size (60 IN x 32 IN) usually takes of 2-3 days for tile shower (Most popular and affordable). If composite stone shower and base (more expensive, premium) usually 2 days.

Does VetBath provide financing If I have any out of pocket cost for a Roll IN or Walk IN shower?
